With 2022 just a few weeks away many parents and in particular, Dad’s, are wondering how they can make 2022 a year where they integrate their roles of Dad, caregiver, spouse and professional.
I took this challenge to my team at Talk Boutique and they have come up with a list of 3 game-changing resolutions for 2022.
We believe that simple, high-impact ideas can lead to exponential growth and integration, and we designed these resolutions to create real and measurable impact in your life.
Go ahead and use these ideas to make 2022 a life-changing year.
1. Set the Right Goals
We all want to start the year off right with a clean slate and a new set of resolutions or goals to keep us on track. But what happens if you’re focused on the wrong goals? Or worse — what if we “10x” the wrong goals?
“When we start with the wrong goal, we’re going to ask the wrong questions about how to achieve that goal,” says Talk Boutique speaker, Jill McAbe during a Talk Boutique Salon event.
As a neuroscience-based business coach, Jill McAbe is often quoted on goal setting and how to create the ones we are motivated to actually achieve. Jill argues that true goal setting is different from those New Year’s resolutions that no one really expects to stick.
Jill teaches clients to create goals with Motivating Outcomes that are Measurable, with one or more Appointments for review. She calls these MOMA Goals, which you can learn more about in Jill’s blog post.
As we approach 2022, take some time to consider:
What you want to achieve
How motivated you are
Set weekly, or quarterly appointments to review
Be sure to celebrate the small successes along the way!
2. Face Your Fears
Too often people are afraid to challenge themselves because they are afraid of failing. Well, we argue that failure is just part of the process, not something to fear.
In fact, Olympian and Talk Boutique speaker Sarah Wells says, “Mistakes and failures are always part of the story. People are more inspired by the times I didn’t make the games than when I did.” It’s with this sentiment that Sarah tells of her journey to two Olympic games in this inspiring talk.
So, what does success look like to you in 2022? And are you in need of inspiration to help get you over the fear of failure?
As Sarah says so simply, “Just get back up.” Failure is just a bump in the road. Step out of your comfort zone in the new year and make a promise to challenge yourself.
3. Write More
UJ and Alex developed a beautifully designed, impactful and easy journal that asks the user to acknowledge gratitude twice a day.
Using cues from behavioural and positive psychology, this powerful tool has helped many to stay focused while journaling and it truly does only take five minutes. The Hustle” declares “[The Five-Minute Journal] actually works and has had a lasting impact on my life.”
Interested in a more free-form approach? Just write!
In Julia Cameron’s highly-acclaimed book, The Artist’s Way, the author challenges her readers to write three full pages every single day. This ritual, known as Morning Pages, is highly recommended by creatives again and again. Trust us, once you start this habit you’ll never turn back. I started doing this in early 2020 and believe me it saved me from myself more than once!
If you don’t want to commit to journaling or Morning Pages, the simplest route is to carry a notebook and pen with you at all times. Write down your ideas and what inspires you. Maybe 2022 will be the year you take the stage and share your big idea!
