Tell us about your company:
Nelson is Canada’s largest and leading educational publisher – a Canadian Heritage Company that has served Canada’s schools and Ministries of education in all provinces and Territories across the country for over a century producing learning materials and curriculum. Most recently, we developed Edwin, a digital learning ecosystem that empower educators and students across the country.
Why did you decide to work at Nelson?
I was impressed by the history and longstanding reputation of the company and its point of differentiation in the market sector. I thought Nelson had an amazing opportunity to disrupt itself and develop a new methodology in delivering learning content to students in a more relevant way, one that equalled every other way students interacted with content in all other aspects of their engagement.
Tell us about your family!
I have a 29 year old step son, a 23 year old daughter and a 20 year old son.
What was the hardest thing about becoming a dad?
Nothing at all, I loved every single period of my kids’ journey and development, from babies to now. I’m so proud of the human beings they are today.
Has being a dad impacted your career? How?
It certainly made me more empathetic as a leader.
What's one thing you've learned from your child/ children?
They have taught me so much, most of all to be accepting of difference and accepting of choice.
How has being a dad made you a better or different leader?
As I said, empathy and the reinforced belief that with planning and execution, anything is achievable.
