Featured Dad: “Parental Preference [to mom] still…gets me down”

Tell us about your company / your work

I work at FEIN Power Tools, a German tool manufacture as the marketing coordinator. I design ads, brochures, social media and marketing materials as well as photograph products.

Why did you start or decide to work at your company?

I design and build furniture as a hobby so working at a tool company was a perfect match! Ive also really enjoyed working in marketing. Ive been there 7 years.

Tell us about your family!

My wife Jessica Moran and I met in college and married in 2016. We had our son Emmett in 2018. We have a Cat named Otis. Jess is a great mother and such a loving, caring wife. Emmett is a sometimes shy, goofy, caring little kid.

What was the hardest thing about becoming a dad?

There is plenty that’s hard about being a dad but the hardest thing for me was parental preference. My son has always been in tune with his mother and its hard when he either doesn’t want me or tells me to go away. I know its something that is very common and It’s something that I’ve tried hard to work on and overcome but it’s still something that gets me down every once in a while. I’ve done plenty of research on it and I know its a very normal thing but it is still such a hard thing to deal with, this littler person who you think the world of, that doesn’t want anything to do with you.

Has being a dad impacted your career? How?

I leave the office earlier LOL. Honestly, its made me more driven to know that I have to help take care of a family and no longer just myself.

What’s one thing you’ve learned from your child?

Patience for sure. How to dance and that if I ever want him to finish his dinner, I can just ask him if he is ready for bed! Being a parent has made me more assertive as a person and it makes me think of how my actions will effect everything. Knowing I have someone looking up to me puts things in perspective and really changes everything!

Keep up with everything DAD
