How has fatherhood changed you personally from the moment you became a dad until now in 2025?
Fatherhood has profoundly reshaped my perspective on every aspect of my life. From the moment I first held my child, my priorities shifted. In 2025, I find myself more patient, more intentional with my time, and deeply aware of the example I set with every action. Every stage of my children’s growth has brought new lessons, from sleepless nights with a newborn, to navigating school and friendships as they gain their independence and learn to navigate the world. I’ve learned resilience, empathy, and the value of being present.
What has surprised you the most about being a dad in the GTA today compared to your own childhood?
The biggest surprise about being a dad in the GTA today compared to my own childhood is how much more structured and fast-paced everything has become. Growing up, we had more free-range experiences—playing outside until the streetlights came on. Now, between scheduled activities, screen time concerns, and safety considerations, parenting feels more planned and intentional. It’s so easy to fall into a spiral of constant worry. The sense of community has changed, too. Technology has done wonders to connect us, but sometimes it makes personal relationships feel more distant. While technology is instrumental in my work, and in staying connected, I don’t ever want my children to feel like it’s stealing their focus.
What do you think is uniquely challenging about raising kids in the Greater Toronto Area in 2025?
Raising kids in the GTA in 2025 comes with unique challenges, particularly around affordability and accessibility. Housing costs continue to rise, and finding activities that are enriching yet affordable can be difficult. Luckily, we live in North York next to small and big parks. This helps us balance city life while ensuring our kids still have a strong sense of nature, play, and community.
What do you love most about parenting in the GTA? Any favorite family-friendly spots or hidden gems?
Despite the challenges, I love the diversity and opportunities available to families in the GTA. The city is filled with cultural experiences, world-class museums, and amazing green spaces. Some of our favorite spots include Evergreen Brick Works for weekend adventures, Riverdale Farm for a taste of nature in the city, and the ROM, which never fails to spark curiosity in young minds.
How has technology shaped your parenting style or family dynamic?
Technology has been both a blessing and a challenge in parenting. On one hand, it provides incredible learning opportunities and ways to stay connected as a family. On the other, managing screen time and ensuring a healthy relationship with tech is an ongoing effort. I strive to model mindful usage—using tech for education and communication rather than just entertainment. I would be lying if I said I was perfect, but it’s definitely aspirational.
What tech tools or apps could you not imagine parenting without in 2025, and why?
In 2025, I can’t imagine parenting without smart home devices that help with organization, family calendar apps that keep our schedules aligned, and communication tools like group chats and video calls. Apps like the calendar app on our iPhones keep us organized with our social life, our kids social lie and their extra curricular activities. Having an organized calendar and schedule helps ensure we have organized lives.
How do you balance work, family life, and personal well-being given the fast pace of life in the GTA?
Balancing work, family life, and personal well-being in the GTA requires conscious effort. I set clear boundaries with work, making sure to carve out quality family time, whether that means leaving the office early or putting my phone away during dinner. Flexible work arrangements have become more common, and I take full advantage of that. They allow me to handle the important things in priority sequence – work yes, but family first always.
What strategies or daily habits help you stay connected to your family amid the demands of life in 2025?
Small daily habits help me stay connected to my family: morning check-ins over breakfast, a no-phone policy during meals, and dedicating time for bath and bedtime. We also prioritize outdoor activities together on weekends—even a simple walk in our neighborhood. These are the years where I am lucky enough to build a lifetime of memories for my children.
As a GTA dad, what kind of future do you hope to help create for your children in this city?
As a GTA dad, I hope to help create a future where my children feel safe, inspired, and empowered. I want them to grow up in a city that values inclusivity, and strong community ties. Encouraging critical thinking, empathy, and resilience in them is key to shaping their future.
In what ways do you think the GTA community could better support fathers and families in 2025?
The GTA community could better support fathers and families by continuing to invest in accessible childcare, creating more parent-friendly workplaces, and fostering stronger neighborhood networks. More father-centric parenting groups and events would be beneficial, as well as expanding resources for mental health and work-life balance.
Being a dad in 2025 is both a privilege and a challenge, but the love and lessons that come with it make every effort worthwhile.
