In a galaxy not so far away, LEGO launched an exciting new addition to its Star Wars lineup. The TIE Fighter & X-Wing Mash-up (set 75393) took flight last month, offering fans a fresh
twist on two iconic starfighters from the beloved franchise. This 1063-piece set, designed for builders aged 9 and up, introduces a playful concept that allows Star Wars enthusiasts to mix and match the wings of the TIE Fighter and X-Wing. The result? Two unconventional starfighters that push the boundaries of galactic ship design. The set’s standout feature is the ability to create the “TIE-wing,” which combines the hull of an X-wing with a TIE fighter’s wings, and the “X-fighter,” which pairs a TIE fighter’s body with an X-wing’s distinctive foils. This innovative wing-swapping mechanism is designed for quick and easy transformation, taking mere seconds to complete.
LEGO designer Madison O’Neil explains, “We wanted to create something truly unique that would spark creativity and imagination. The ability to mix and match these iconic ships opens
up a whole new world of play possibilities.” The set includes five mini figures, featuring new character Sig Greebling, an L3-G0 droid, a TIE pilot, a Rebel pilot, and one additional character. Each mash-up starfighter comes equipped with two spring-loaded shooters, adding an extra layer of excitement for young pilots eager to defend their creations.
While the mini figure selection has drawn some criticism for its lack of unique variants, the set’s overall design has been praised for its attention to detail and sturdy construction. Both
the TIE Fighter and X-Wing are well-executed at their scale, with easily accessible cockpits for mini figure placement. The set’s release coincides with the upcoming LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy animated mini-series on Disney+, which has inspired this creative reimagining of classic Star Wars vessels.
While some collectors may prefer more screen-accurate models, the TIE Fighter & X-Wing Mash-up is expected to be a hit for those who appreciate creative interpretations of the Star
Wars universe. Not only great for the kids to play, it’d be a great show-off piece on your coffee table, office desk, on the book shelf of your study, or something you and the buddies can build
while going down the memory lane of nostalgia. This set promises to deliver an out-of-this-world building experience that’s sure to ignite imaginations across the galaxy.
